Transcript: Chapter 2, Episode 8
The ghost lunges toward Blaze, grabbing Blaze’s head. His mouth still glows faintly from Blaze’s breath. Blaze cries, “Whoa, whoa…! As much as I want to share breath again—and damn, I want to… you’re too smoky to handle it!”
As the ghost grabs Blaze’s jaw, Blaze grunts and presses his hand against the ghost’s face to hold him back. The ghost grabs his wrist, and he says, “Don’t make me…!”
Sound effects read, “knock knock knock.”
In the hallway, Evie knocks on Blaze’s bedroom door and says, “Blaze? What’s going on in there?”
As the ghost pins him upside down against the wall above his bed, Blaze yells exaggeratedly, “Everything’s fine, Evie! Go back to sleep!”
Evie looks skeptically over her shoulder and says nothing as she turns away from the door.
In the bedroom, Blaze slides upside down from the wall onto his pillow. Looking up at the ghost, he says, “Listen… I know you’re confused… but I need you to calm down.”
The ghost tries to grab Blaze, but Blaze’s arm passes through the palm of his hand. Blaze says, “If you kill someone—anyone—”
The ghost takes another swipe, and Blaze dodges as the ghost’s hand passes through his arm. Blaze continues, “while you’re trapped between realms…”
Again, the ghost’s hand passes through Blaze’s arm, and Blaze yells, “You’ll turn to the smoke!”
As Blaze says, “So don’t make me—” the ghost catches his arm with a firm grip, and Blaze gapes in shock.
The ghost pulls Blaze close, holding his head in place and pressing their lips together. His mouth glows from Blaze’s breath.
Blaze’s tattooed hands glow orange as he presses them against the ghost’s chest.
Blinding orange flames burst out of Blaze’s palms, illuminating the room and slamming the ghost against the far wall. Blaze kneels on his bed, holding his arms out in front of him and directing the fire.
The ghost slides down to the floor with a loud THUNK, his midsection cracked and glowing orange with the energy from Blaze’s flames.
Blaze kneels and braces himself weakly on his bed, his head slumped and hair hanging in his face. He has dark shadows under his eyes, and he looks worn as glowing smoke billows up from his hands. He pauses, then says, “I told you not to make me…”
Blaze’s eyes roll back in his head, and he begins to collapse.
Only the edges of Blaze’s hair are visible as he falls out of the frame.
A logo appears: Into the Smoke. Intothesmokecomic.com
An image shows nine ghost hands converging to pet Otto, a content fat black cat. Each hand has several names written on it. Text reads: Special Thanks to my Patrons. Pledge on Patreon at patreon.com/bob_artist. The words “Pledge on Patreon” are crossed out and replaced with the words, “Pet Otto.” An additional URL reads intothesmokecomic.com.
Yep. He can do that.
This should come as no surprise if you read the previous episode, but again, Bonus Tier patrons and higher get the “canonically accurate” version of this episode, where Blaze wears nothing to sleep! Same deal as last time: all the art’s the same, just the attire is different. The Patreon link for the uncensored version will go live soon!
Anyway, I love how last episode, everyone commenting on Patreon just recognized that “yep, that’s clearly the way he’s supposed to sleep.” 😄
