Monthly Roundup: June 5, 2024

Into the Smoke Launch, Patreon Renovation, and More!

In this newsletter, you’ll find out about everything I released over the past 30-31 days.

Anything not labeled “Patreon” or “paid” is free and publicly available.

May 5 to June 5, 2024

This was a BIG month! It’s not every month that I launch a major project I’ve been working on behind the scenes for the past two years, so I’m pretty excited!

Major Announcements and Releases

Into the Smoke is OUT NOW!

My new webcomic, Into the Smoke, has officially launched!

An androgynous young man with shoulder-length red hair and tattooed hands appears below a dark, smoky ghost, who caresses the man while inhaling his breath. Swirls and patterns surround them. A tagline at the top reads: A medium, an evil ghost, and a murder mystery. A logo at the bottom reads: Into the Smoke.

When gay medium Blaze binds himself to an evil spirit, he hopes solving the ghost’s murder will help bring him peace. But Alastor the Angel Killer has other plans…

The main site will run ahead of the mirror sites and be less censored, due to tight platform restrictions. I don’t recommend downloading these apps just for my comic, but if you already use them, ITS is there for you!

Patreon Renovation!

My Patreon has been running for a pretty long time. Over the years, the platform underwent significant changes, and I expanded the type of work I do. At long last, I had a chance to update (and beautify) my page to include all these changes, including the ITS launch. Check it out!

I also enabled subscription billing, so new patrons get charged the same day of their first pledge every month instead of always the 1st. No more double-charging if you pledge late in the month. And if the 1st is tight financially, you can start at a more comfortable time! Nothing changes for existing patrons.

The ITS launch brought in a big influx of new and increased pledges, and I can’t thank you guys enough! You’re helping me invest more time into creating comics, and that’s a huge deal.

Banner for Demon of the Underground: Webcomic. The four main characters of the comic are shown in the midst of battle: Jordana, Merritt, Samsid, and Pogo.

Demon of the Underground

Demon of the Underground is my longest-running webcomic. The first 300+ pages can be read for free at demonoftheunderground.com. Current pages are being released on Patreon, with tentative plans for new free pages in the future.

DOTU: Chapter 5 Pages (Patreon)

  • We had two new DOTU pages this month! Patrons can read chapter 5, page 33 and page 34 now!
  • Page 33 has a great moment of tension between Merritt and Samsid, but you’ll need a long memory – or some handy links – to pick up the reference. Page 34 includes what I fondly refer to as Pogo’s worst line of dialogue in the entire comic. 🙂

DOTU: Chapter 4 Episodes

  • Demon of the Underground had new free updates on Webtoon and Tapas! This is the censored mobile scrolling version of the comic, as opposed to the page-format version at demonoftheunderground.com.
  • These mirrors are running far behind the free pages on the main site, so there will be public updates until they catch up.

Patreon Rewards (Patreon)

  • For May’s character interviews ($5 patrons and up), Jordana called in from a rowdy bar to talk about weapons and Archer shared some insights about her relationship with her parents.
  • For May’s Secret Gallery post ($10 and up), we had a DOTU/Into the Smoke crossover! Here are two pyromaniac adrenaline junkies who shouldn’t ever have a chance to meet… (Condolences to their poor, reasonable counterparts in the background.)

Minicomics

A series of three illustrations. The first is a wrapped stick of unsalted butter. The second shows the butter partially unwrapped. The third shows the butter in a skillet on a gas stove burner.

This month in posts that unexpectedly blew up on Tumblr, read my minicomic about butter.

Odds and Ends

More tumblr shenanigans…

Fan Creations

So unlike everything else in the Monthly Roundup, this one wasn’t my release. But I’m super excited to include fan stuff in the newsletter!

  • Into the Smoke: Zippy made Blaze Minecraft skins for y’all to download. Check it out here!

Into the Smoke has LAUNCHED!

The comic is live!

Into the Smoke has launched with episodes 1 and 2, the equivalent of about 12 comic pages! From here, we’ll have a new episode every other Wednesday until all 12 episodes of chapter 1 have been posted. Read Into the Smoke, Chapter 1 Episode 1 now!

Monthly Roundup: May 5, 2024

May 2024 Monthly Roundup! ITS Cameos, Merritt’s Story, and More!

It’s hard to top the productivity of April! May was quite chill in comparison, partly because I was doing a lot of long-form work behind the scenes. But there’s still plenty to check out, and that behind-the-scenes stuff is pretty exciting too!
